Long-distance transfers to Indira Gandhi International Airport

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is the main long-haul gateway for most travellers from Punjab, and the run from Doaba or Majha is a serious highway journey — six to nine hours depending on where you start. It is not a drive to leave to chance the night before an international flight.

Jagvir Taxi Service runs door-to-terminal transfers to all three IGI terminals. We plan the departure time backwards from your flight, allow for the NH44 toll stretches and the approach into Delhi, and keep the driver on the same schedule as you.

Call or WhatsApp +91 72680 42000 with your flight number and terminal.

Working out your departure time

This is the calculation that matters most on a Delhi run, because the margin for error is larger than on a short airport hop.

Start from your flight time. Allow 3 hours at the terminal for an international departure or 2 hours for domestic. Add the driving time from the table above. Then add a buffer — we normally suggest 1 to 2 hours on a Punjab–Delhi run to absorb traffic around Panipat and Sonipat and the approach into Delhi.

In practice a mid-morning international departure from IGI usually means leaving Doaba the previous night or very early the same morning. We will tell you honestly which one your flight needs.

Tell us your terminal as well as your flight number. T3 handles most international and full-service domestic flights; T1 handles much of the low-cost domestic traffic. They are a meaningful drive apart and arriving at the wrong one costs time you may not have.

The NH44 corridor

Almost every Punjab–Delhi run uses NH44 through Ludhiana, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. It is a good high-speed road for most of its length, with several toll plazas along the way. Tolls are part of the journey cost and we confirm what your booking covers before you travel — there are no surprises at the plaza.

The stretch around Shambhu on the Punjab–Haryana border is occasionally closed by protests or blockades at short notice. Our drivers monitor this and reroute when needed; on a flight run we build in the possibility.

Rest stops. On a seven-to-ten hour drive we plan a proper break. There are well-known dhabas and service stops along the Karnal and Murthal stretches, and we will stop where you prefer rather than pushing straight through.

Seasonal conditions

December and January fog on NH44 is the main risk on this route. The Karnal–Panipat–Sonipat stretch is one of the worst-affected corridors in north India, and pre-dawn visibility can fall to a few metres. For winter flights we strongly recommend starting earlier than the table suggests, and in some cases travelling the previous evening.

October and November bring smoke haze across the whole corridor.

April and October harvest movements slow the Punjab section.

Vehicles

  • Sedan (Swift Dzire, Etios) — up to 4 passengers with moderate luggage.
  • Ertiga — up to 6 passengers, more boot space.
  • Innova / Innova Crysta — up to 6 or 7 with full luggage. The most comfortable option on a long overnight run and our usual recommendation for Delhi.
  • Tempo Traveller — larger groups travelling together.

On a journey of this length, comfort matters more than on a short hop. If you are travelling overnight or with children or elderly passengers, we will usually suggest stepping up a vehicle class.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours should I allow from Jalandhar or Doaba to IGI?

Plan on roughly 7 hours of driving from Doaba, plus terminal time, plus a buffer. For an international departure that usually means leaving the night before or very early the same morning.

Is the toll included?

We confirm exactly what your booking covers — tolls, driver allowance and taxes — before you travel, so there is nothing unexpected at the plaza.

Do you drive overnight?

Yes. Overnight is common on this route for morning departures, and we plan rest stops into the schedule.

Which terminal do you drop at?

All IGI terminals. Tell us T1, T2 or T3 when booking — they are a significant drive apart.

Do you do pickups from Delhi airport back to Punjab?

Yes. We track your arrival, so a delayed or diverted landing is handled.

My town is not listed. Do you cover it?

Very likely. Call or WhatsApp +91 72680 42000 to confirm.
