Adampur is the closest airport to Jalandhar, and also the most misunderstood. It is a small civil terminal with only a handful of domestic flights, so a little planning goes a long way. We run pickups and drops between Adampur and Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara and Kapurthala, timed to whatever flight you are actually booked on.
First, a few things to know about Adampur Airport
- Where it is: roughly 20 to 25 km north-east of Jalandhar, off the Jalandhar–Hoshiarpur road near Adampur town. From most parts of Jalandhar the drive takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
- What it is: a civil enclave at Adampur Air Force Station. The passenger terminal is small and separate from the military side, but the area around it is a defence zone. Keep your ticket and photo ID handy and avoid taking photos on the approach.
- Flights: only a few domestic flights operate, and the airlines and routes have changed from season to season. On some days there may be very few departures, or none at all. Always check the current schedule with your airline before you plan anything around it.
- No international flights: if you are flying abroad, you will still be going through Delhi, Amritsar or Chandigarh.
Because the timetable is thin, a delay or a cancellation at Adampur can be harder to absorb than at a big airport. Tell us your flight number when you book, and send a quick message if the airline changes your time.
Where we take you to and from Adampur
| Town | How the drive goes | Who usually books |
|---|---|---|
| Jalandhar city | About 20–25 km on the Hoshiarpur road, roughly 30–45 min | Business travellers, families, students |
| Hoshiarpur | Further along the same road, away from Jalandhar | Families from Hoshiarpur and nearby villages |
| Phagwara | Through Jalandhar to NH44, or by the link roads | Students and staff around Phagwara, local businesses |
| Kapurthala | Across Jalandhar on the Kapurthala road | Families and officials heading to Kapurthala |
We also cover villages along the way, including around Adampur town itself, Bhogpur and the Hoshiarpur road belt. Just give us the village name.
Flying out: when to leave
For a domestic departure, plan to be at the terminal about 2 hours before the flight. Small airports can feel quick inside, but security at the gate of a defence area and the limited number of counters mean you should not cut it fine. A rough guide from Jalandhar:
- Morning flight: leave home about 2 hours 45 minutes before departure. Early morning roads are clear, but leave the buffer for gate and security checks.
- Afternoon or evening flight: leave about 3 hours before, to allow for city traffic around BMC Chowk and the outskirts.
- From Hoshiarpur or Kapurthala: add the extra drive time and confirm with us at booking.
The driver collects you from your door, loads your bags, and drops you at the terminal entrance. Tolls and parking are discussed when you book.
Landing at Adampur: the pickup
Share your flight number and the date. The day before, you get the driver's name, number and car number on WhatsApp. When the flight lands he waits outside the small arrivals area; the terminal is small, so finding each other is easy. If the flight is delayed, the driver waits; if it is cancelled, call us and we will reschedule.
Which car
Domestic travellers usually carry less luggage than NRI families, so a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios is the common choice for one to four people. A family of five or more, or anyone carrying heavy bags, should book an Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova or Mahindra Marazzo. For a group travelling together, there are 12-seater and 17-seater Tempo Travellers. All are air-conditioned.
Connecting onward from Adampur
Some passengers land at Adampur and go straight on somewhere else: a wedding in a village near Hoshiarpur, a hostel near Phagwara, or a family home in Kapurthala. Tell us the final address when you book rather than just "Jalandhar", so the driver plans the shortest road from the airport and you are not routed through the city centre for no reason. If you need the car for a few hours after landing, for example to visit relatives on the way, that can be added too.
When Adampur doesn't suit your flight
Many Jalandhar travellers find that the flight they need simply isn't on Adampur's schedule that season. In that case it is often easier to drive to a bigger airport. From Jalandhar, Amritsar is about 90 km, Chandigarh about 150 km and Delhi about 375 km. See our Jalandhar to Amritsar airport, Jalandhar to Chandigarh airport and Jalandhar to Delhi airport pages for timings. Travellers from Hoshiarpur can compare the Hoshiarpur to Chandigarh airport run. For short trips inside the city after you land, our local Jalandhar taxi is available by the hour or the day.
