Every winter and every wedding season, the arrivals halls at Delhi, Amritsar and Chandigarh fill up with Punjabi families coming home from Canada, the UK, the US, Australia, Italy and the Gulf. This page is for them, and for the parents and brothers back in the village who usually end up arranging the car. We pick up from all three airports and drive to any town or village in the Doaba, Majha or Malwa, and we take you back again when the visit ends.
Which airport is closest to your village?
The right airport depends on where home is. Flights decide most of it, but the drive at the end matters, especially with elderly parents or small children.
| Home region | Typical towns | Shortest drive from | Also common |
|---|---|---|---|
| Doaba | Jalandhar, Phagwara, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr | Amritsar (about 90 km to Jalandhar) | Delhi T3 (about 375 km to Jalandhar) |
| Majha | Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Batala, Beas | Amritsar | Delhi T3 (about 460 km to Amritsar) |
| Malwa | Ludhiana, Moga, Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur | Chandigarh (about 105 km to Ludhiana) | Delhi T3 (about 315 km to Ludhiana) |
Many Doaba families still land at Delhi because that is where the direct flights from Canada and the UK come in. That is fine; it is a long day's drive, but our drivers do it all the time and know where to stop.
The three airports we cover
Delhi, Terminal 3
All international flights land at T3. Immigration and baggage usually take 60 to 90 minutes, and the driver plans for that. The road home is NH44 through Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Ludhiana and on into the Doaba, with the usual food stop at Murthal. Route pages: Delhi airport to Jalandhar, and for return drops Phagwara, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala to Delhi airport.
Amritsar, Raja Sansi
Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport handles flights from the Gulf and connections from Europe. For anyone heading to Jalandhar, Kapurthala or the Majha, it is by far the shortest drive. See Amritsar airport to Jalandhar and the full Amritsar airport list.
Chandigarh, Mohali side
Mostly domestic, with some flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Useful for families from Nawanshahr, Ropar and the eastern Malwa, or anyone connecting from Delhi or Mumbai on a domestic leg. See Nawanshahr to Chandigarh airport and Chandigarh airport to Jalandhar.
What to send us before you fly
- Flight number, date and landing time (and terminal, for Delhi)
- Number of adults and children
- Number of large suitcases, cabin bags and cartons; NRI luggage is usually the deciding factor for the car
- Wheelchair needs for an elderly parent, so we can plan the pickup and the driver can help with bags
- Child seats, which are on request; ask early so we can arrange one
- Full drop address or the village name with the nearest landmark
- A local contact number in Punjab, in case your phone has no roaming on landing
Booking from abroad, paying from home
You do not need an Indian number to book. WhatsApp works from anywhere, so a message from Brampton, Southall or Melbourne reaches us just like a local one. Many families let a relative in Punjab handle everything instead: the father or brother calls us, confirms the car and the quote, and pays or coordinates from this side. Either way, the driver's name, mobile number and car number go to the traveller and to the family contact on WhatsApp before the flight.
Tolls, state permits and parking are discussed and confirmed at booking. Nothing is left to argue about at the airport kerb.
Cars for families coming home
Two big suitcases per person is normal for a winter visit, and more for a wedding. For a family of three or four, that already means an Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova or Mahindra Marazzo. A couple travelling light can take a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios. When two families land together, or the whole village welcome party comes to the airport, a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller is the practical answer. Every car is air-conditioned.
During the visit, and the drop back
Once you are home, the same team can handle the rest of the trip: a wedding car or baraat vehicles, darshan at the Golden Temple, a family run to Vaishno Devi or a few days in Himachal. When it is time to fly back, we work out the departure time with you. For international flights from Delhi, you should reach the airport about 3 hours before departure, which from the Doaba usually means leaving home in the middle of the night or the previous evening. All the Delhi routes are on the Delhi airport hub.

Questions people ask about this trip
Can I book from Canada or the UK without an Indian phone number?
Yes. Send your flight details on WhatsApp to +91 72680 42000 from any country, and we confirm the car and quote there.
Can my family in Punjab pay and arrange the pickup?
Yes. A relative in Punjab can call us, confirm the booking and pay or coordinate from here. The driver's details are sent to both the traveller and the family contact.
Which airport should a Doaba family fly into?
Amritsar gives the shortest drive, about 90 km to Jalandhar. Delhi T3 often has the more direct international flights, but the drive is about 375 km and 7 hours.
Do you provide child seats and wheelchair help?
Child seats are available on request, so ask early. Tell us about wheelchair needs and we will plan the pickup around it and the driver will help with bags.
Which car fits a family coming home with heavy luggage?
Usually an Innova Crysta, Innova or Marazzo. Two families travelling together, or a large welcome party, should book a 12 or 17-seater Tempo Traveller.
Can you also drive us back to the airport at the end of the visit?
Yes. We arrange return drops to Delhi, Amritsar and Chandigarh and plan the departure time around your flight, about 3 hours before an international flight.
