How the trip is routed

The distance is roughly 380 km and takes about 7 hours. Hoshiarpur is not on NH44, so the first part of the trip is a link road down to the highway:

• Via Phagwara – the usual way from Hoshiarpur city and the southern villages.
• Via Jalandhar – often quicker from the Adampur side or the northern villages.
• Via Banga – sometimes the better link for the Garhshankar side.

Once on NH44 the car runs through Ludhiana, Khanna and Rajpura, crosses into Haryana at Shambhu, and continues through Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. Murthal is where we stop for food. The driver chooses the final approach to the airport by the time of day.

Timing for a long-haul departure

Long-haul flights to Canada, the UK and the US mostly leave Delhi from Terminal 3, many of them late at night or before dawn. Airlines want international passengers there about 3 hours early. For a 4 AM flight, we usually suggest leaving a Hoshiarpur village around 3 to 5 PM the day before. That allows about 7 hours on the road, the link road out of the village, a proper meal stop and some slack for Delhi traffic. For a domestic flight, about 2 hours early at the airport is enough.

Elderly parents flying to join their children often need more frequent stops. We plan those in; nobody has to ask twice.

Before you book: a short checklist

• Flight number and departure time (we plan the pickup from these).
• Exact pickup location, ideally a WhatsApp live location for villages.
• Number of passengers, including anyone riding back after the drop.
• Number and size of suitcases. Four or more large bags means an Innova, Innova Crysta or Marazzo.
• Whether anyone needs a wheelchair at the airport, so you can request it from the airline in advance.

Choosing a car

For one or two passengers with two check-in bags, a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios is enough. Families going abroad for months almost always need the bigger boot of the Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo. Large send-offs, where relatives come to wave goodbye at the terminal, fit in a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. Every car is air-conditioned.

Drop, return and arrivals

The driver drops you at the departure gate and helps unload. Relatives can ride back to Hoshiarpur after his rest break. For family landing in Delhi, he waits at arrivals with the flight details, and you receive his name and number on WhatsApp before the trip.
