Jammu to Delhi Airport Taxi Service

Jammu has its own airport, so why would anyone take a 10-hour taxi to Delhi? We hear the question often, and the answer is usually an international ticket out of Delhi's Terminal 3, a family with more luggage than a domestic connection allows, or a group that wants to travel together door to door. This page covers how that long road trip works.

When the road makes more sense than a connecting flight

• Long-haul tickets from Delhi. Jammu airport handles domestic flights, so anyone flying abroad has to reach Delhi one way or another. By road, you arrive with all your bags in one go and no risk of missing a connection.
• Heavy luggage. Families going abroad for months often carry more than they want to check through a domestic hop.
• Groups and pilgrims. Families returning from Vaishno Devi at Katra sometimes prefer one vehicle all the way to the airport.
• Schedule. If the domestic flight timings do not line up well with your international departure, a car on your own schedule can be simpler.

Distance and the route

Jammu to Delhi airport is roughly 580 km and about 10 hours of driving. The car heads south through Samba and Kathua, crosses into Punjab and reaches Pathankot, then comes down through Mukerian and Dasuya to Jalandhar. From there it is NH44 all the way: Phagwara, Ludhiana, Khanna, Rajpura, the Shambhu border, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. Murthal is the main meal stop near the end. Interstate permits for the trip are handled when you book, so there is nothing for you to arrange at the border.

Rest stops on a 10-hour drive

One driver does the full trip, and on a run this long we plan breaks properly. A usual pattern is a tea stop around Pathankot, a longer break somewhere on the Punjab stretch, and a meal at Murthal. Passengers can ask for extra stops whenever they need them. Night trips are planned with these breaks already in the timing.

Planning the pickup time

International passengers should reach Terminal 3 about 3 hours before departure, domestic passengers about 2 hours. From Jammu, count on around 12 hours from pickup to the terminal once breaks and city traffic are included.

Pickup in Jammu and Katra

We collect from anywhere in Jammu city, including Gandhi Nagar, the bus stand and Jammu Tawi railway station, and from hotels in the city. Pilgrims finishing a Vaishno Devi yatra can be picked up from their hotel in Katra; allow extra time for that leg.

Choosing a vehicle for ten hours

Comfort matters more on this route than on any other. A Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios suits one or two people with modest luggage. Families, older passengers and anyone with four or five large suitcases should book a Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo for the legroom and boot space. Groups of pilgrims can travel in a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. All vehicles are air-conditioned.

At Delhi airport

The driver drops you at the departure gate of your terminal and helps with the luggage. For guests arriving in Delhi and heading to Jammu or Katra, the driver waits at arrivals and shares his name and number on WhatsApp before the trip.
