Many of the people we drive from Jammu to Delhi have just come down from Vaishno Devi. After the yatra, families are tired and carrying bags and prasad, and they would rather sit in one car to their door in NCR, or to Delhi airport for a flight, than manage a train. This page covers both: airport drops at IGI and city drops anywhere in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.
The longest run on our list
Jammu to Delhi is about 570 km and roughly 10 hours to the edge of the city. Delhi airport is about 580 km. Add 30 to 90 minutes for Gurugram, Noida or Ghaziabad. That is a full day in the car, so it pays to plan the start time and the breaks properly.
Before you leave Jammu or Katra
- Tell us where to pick up: your hotel in Jammu, Jammu Tawi railway station, the bus stand, or Katra if you are coming straight from the yatra. Katra adds roughly an hour or more at the start.
- If the darshan or the walk down from Bhawan runs late, message us on WhatsApp. It is better to shift the start than to rush.
- For an airport drop, send the flight number and time before you confirm the pickup.
- Keep medicines and water within reach. On a 10-hour trip, the boot is not opened often.
Driving through in one go, or stopping overnight
There are two ways to do this trip:
Straight through. Leave Jammu very early, around 4 or 5 am, and you reach Delhi in the afternoon, ideally before the evening rush that starts around 5 pm. For a city drop in Gurugram or Noida, an even earlier start helps.
With a night halt. Many families prefer to break the trip in Punjab. Jalandhar sits roughly halfway, and some pilgrims take a detour via Amritsar for darshan at the Golden Temple before continuing to Delhi the next morning. Tell us when you book and we will plan the halt.
For a flight from Delhi
International flights all leave from Terminal 3. Domestic flights use Terminal 3 or Terminal 1, depending on the airline; IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa mostly fly from T1. Aim to reach the airport about 3 hours before an international departure and about 2 hours before a domestic one. With a 10-hour drive, a late-night or next-morning flight is far easier to plan than an afternoon one. If your flight leaves early in the morning, a night halt near Delhi is the safest option.
For an address in NCR
After Sonipat, the driver takes the route that suits your address. Gurugram is often reached via the KMP or NH48 side; Noida and Ghaziabad from the eastern side of Delhi. If the family is splitting up at the end, say one group to south Delhi and another to Noida, list both addresses and we will plan the drops.
The road
From Jammu the car runs through Samba and Kathua to the Lakhanpur crossing into Punjab, then past Pathankot, Mukerian and Dasuya to Jalandhar. From Jalandhar it is NH44 all the way: Phagwara, Ludhiana, Khanna, Rajpura, the Haryana border near Shambhu, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. The Murthal dhabas near Sonipat are the last proper meal stop before Delhi.
Four, sometimes five, state lines are crossed on this one: J&K into Punjab at Lakhanpur, then Haryana, Delhi, and UP if you live in Noida or Ghaziabad. We go over the permit, toll and parking side with you on the phone when you book, so the quote you agree to is the one that stands.
Which car for the yatra group
A couple or a family of four can manage in a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios, though on a 10-hour drive many prefer the Toyota Innova or Innova Crysta for the legroom. The Mahindra Marazzo is another seven-seater. Yatra groups often take the 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. All are air-conditioned.

If you only need to reach a flight in Punjab, Jammu to Amritsar airport is roughly 4h30. Travellers already in Pathankot can use Pathankot to Delhi NCR and airport. Going up for the yatra? See our Jalandhar to Katra taxi, and the Delhi NCR route list for other towns.

Questions people ask about this trip
Can you pick us up in Katra after the Vaishno Devi yatra?
Yes. Katra adds roughly an hour or more at the start. Message us on WhatsApp if the darshan runs late and we will shift the pickup.
Do you drop at Delhi airport and at homes in NCR?
Yes. This route covers Delhi airport (T1 and T3) and any address in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad or Ghaziabad.
Can we break the journey on the way?
Yes. Jalandhar is roughly halfway, and some families stop at Amritsar for the Golden Temple before continuing. Tell us when you book.
Is it safe to plan an afternoon flight on the same day as leaving Jammu?
It is tight, as the drive is roughly 10 hours. A late-night or next-day flight is much easier, or a night halt near Delhi for an early flight.
Which vehicle suits a yatra group of twelve?
The 12-seater Tempo Traveller. For larger groups we have a 17-seater.
