The quickest way from Patiala to Delhi is down to Rajpura, where the car joins NH44, and then straight south. It is about 245 km and roughly 5 hours to Delhi, so Patiala sits in a useful middle ground: close enough for a same-day return, far enough that the start time still matters.
Patiala to Rajpura, then the highway
The first leg, from Patiala to Rajpura, takes around 30 to 40 minutes depending on where you start in the city. At Rajpura the car turns onto NH44 and soon crosses the Punjab–Haryana border near Shambhu. After that it is Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat, with the Murthal dhabas about an hour short of Delhi. Most people stop there for parathas or tea.
In Delhi, the driver picks the approach for your address. Gurugram is usually reached on the KMP or NH48 side; Noida and Ghaziabad via the eastern side of the city. Plan on roughly 30 to 90 minutes extra for these, depending on the hour.
A university town's traffic
Patiala is home to Punjabi University and Thapar Institute, and both bring students from Delhi and NCR. So a good part of this route is:
- Parents from Gurugram, Noida or Delhi coming to drop or collect a student, and going back in the same car.
- Students heading home with a semester's luggage, often sharing a car with friends going to the same part of NCR.
- Local students with an offer letter from a foreign college, off to a Delhi visa centre for their biometrics.
We pick up from the university gates, hostels, PGs, and from homes across Patiala, including the old city near Qila Mubarak, the railway station, the bus stand and the villages around the city.
Weddings and family functions
Patiala families have strong links with Delhi, and wedding season keeps this road busy. For a baraat or a family group, the 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together and leaves room for clothes and gifts. For a smaller party, the Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo seats six or seven. We can wait through the evening function and drive back overnight, or arrange a night halt in NCR and return the next day.
Delhi traffic: what to avoid
The single biggest delay on this trip is arriving in Delhi or Gurugram during the evening peak, roughly 5 to 9 pm. A few rules of thumb we use:
- For a morning visa or embassy appointment, leave Patiala around 3 am.
- For a hospital OPD at AIIMS or Medanta, aim to arrive an hour before reporting time; tell us the time and we will work back.
- For a same-day return, leave NCR by about 3 or 4 pm.
- If you have stops in both Noida and Gurugram, do them on different halves of the day.
Smaller groups and sedans
One to four passengers with normal bags travel well in a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios. For an elderly patient going for treatment, we suggest the Innova or Innova Crysta for easier seating. All our vehicles have air conditioning.
Round trips, night halts and multiple drops
A same-day round trip from Patiala is roughly 10 hours of driving plus your time in the city. It works well for a single appointment. If you have several drops across NCR, for example two students going to different homes in Delhi and Faridabad, list them when you book and we will plan the order. The car crosses into Haryana, Delhi and possibly Uttar Pradesh; permits, tolls and parking are confirmed at booking along with the quote.
