Ask anyone in Kapurthala district why they go to Delhi and the most common answer is a visa appointment. With so many families here having sons, daughters or grandchildren in Canada, the UK and elsewhere, a trip to a visa centre or embassy in Delhi is almost routine. It is about 380 km and roughly 7 hours by car, and we plan these runs around the appointment time.
Visa and embassy appointments
Appointment slots in Delhi are usually in the morning, and they do not wait for anyone stuck at Panipat. For a 9 or 10 am slot we suggest leaving Kapurthala between 1 and 2 am. That leaves room for a break at the Murthal dhabas near Sonipat and time to find the right building before the queue starts.
A short checklist we share with visa families:
- Keep the appointment letter, passport and file in a bag inside the car, not in the boot.
- Share the exact address of the centre when you book. Delhi has more than one visa centre and embassy area, and the driver should know which one before you set off.
- Most centres do not allow drivers or relatives to wait inside. The driver will park nearby and wait for your call.
- If your parents are going alone, give us your own number too, so the driver can update you.
Leaving Kapurthala
We pick up from homes across the city, near the Jagatjit Palace and the old town, from the Rail Coach Factory colony, from Sultanpur Lodhi, Phagwara-side villages and anywhere else in the district. The car comes in from Jalandhar, about 20 km away, so even a midnight pickup is easy for us.
From Kapurthala the road goes into Jalandhar and joins NH44. From there it is the standard run: Phagwara, the Ladhowal toll near Ludhiana, Khanna, Rajpura, the Haryana border near Shambhu, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and into Delhi.
Other reasons people go
Not every trip is a visa run. We also take Kapurthala families to Delhi for treatment at AIIMS, to Gurugram for Medanta, and to weddings across NCR. NRI families who have just landed sometimes want to visit relatives in Noida or Faridabad on the way to Punjab, or the other way round before flying out.
If the trip involves more than one stop, for example a visa centre first and then a relative's house in Ghaziabad, give us both addresses at booking. Gurugram is usually reached by the KMP or NH48 side; Noida and Ghaziabad are on the eastern side of the city. Either way, add roughly 30 to 90 minutes beyond the time to reach Delhi.
Cars for the trip
Two or three people with documents and a small bag go comfortably in a Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios. If the elders are travelling, or you are carrying gifts and suitcases for relatives, a Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo has much more space. Wedding parties can take a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. All are air-conditioned.
Coming back the same day
A visa appointment is often over by noon. If you leave Delhi straight after, before the evening rush, you can be back in Kapurthala late at night. That is about 14 hours of driving in one day. If you are not in a hurry, or the appointment runs long, a night halt in NCR and an early start home is easier on everyone. Tell us which you prefer when you book.
On paperwork: the car goes from Punjab into Haryana, Delhi and sometimes UP, and you do not have to arrange anything for that. We cover the permit side, along with tolls and parking near the visa centre, during the booking call, and you get the confirmed quote before the car leaves.

Questions people ask about this trip
What time should I leave Kapurthala for a 9 am visa appointment in Delhi?
Leave between 1 and 2 am. The drive takes roughly 7 hours, and the extra time covers a break at Murthal and finding the centre.
Will the driver wait while I am at the visa centre?
Yes. Drivers usually cannot wait inside, so he parks nearby and you call him when you come out.
Can my parents travel alone for their appointment?
Yes, many do. Give us your number as well as theirs, and the driver will keep you updated during the trip.
Do you pick up from Sultanpur Lodhi or the RCF colony?
Yes. We pick up from anywhere in Kapurthala district, including Sultanpur Lodhi, the Rail Coach Factory colony and nearby villages.
Can we come back to Kapurthala the same day?
If the appointment ends by noon and you leave Delhi before the evening rush, yes, but it is a long day. Otherwise a night halt in NCR is easier.
