Ambala is the closest of our regular towns to Delhi: about 195 km and roughly 4 hours, all of it on NH44. That short distance changes how people use the car. Here a same-day round trip is the normal plan, not the exception, and many customers go down for a single appointment and are home for dinner.
A typical Ambala day trip
- 7 am: pickup in Ambala City or Ambala Cantt.
- Around 9 am: tea or breakfast at Murthal, near Sonipat.
- 11 am: at your appointment in Delhi, or a little later in Gurugram or Noida.
- 3 to 4 pm: leave NCR, before the evening peak builds.
- 8 pm or so: back home.
The car and driver wait for you in between. If you need to be in Delhi earlier, for a 9 am visa slot for example, leave Ambala around 4:30 am.
Ambala City and Ambala Cantt
We pick up from both. Ambala Cantt is a large cantonment with Army and Air Force families, and its railway station is a major junction. Ambala City has the well-known cloth market and its own railway station and bus stand. Ambala Cantt is also known for its scientific instruments trade, and owners regularly travel to Delhi and NCR for orders and suppliers. We also pick up from Saha, Barara, Naraingarh and villages around the district if needed.
Defence families on a posting change often need to move between Ambala and Delhi with a lot of luggage. An Innova or Innova Crysta, or a Tempo Traveller for big families, handles that better than a sedan.
Is the train not quicker?
For a single person going to New Delhi station, maybe. But most of our Ambala customers are going somewhere the train does not reach directly: a hospital in south Delhi, an office in Gurugram, a flat in Noida, a wedding venue in Faridabad. A car from Ambala takes you to that door, waits, and brings you back. With elderly parents or small children, that matters a lot.
Which part of NCR?
From Ambala the car runs through Shahabad, past the Kurukshetra turn-off, then Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. At Delhi's northern edge, the driver chooses based on your address:
- North and central Delhi: straight in on NH44.
- Gurugram and Manesar: often the KMP side, avoiding central Delhi; NH48 side for some parts of the city.
- Noida and Ghaziabad: the eastern side of Delhi.
- South Delhi and Faridabad: through the city or round it, depending on traffic.
Add roughly 30 to 90 minutes to the 4 hours for these areas. Because Ambala is so close, a morning start usually puts you in NCR before the worst of the traffic, but on the way back, try to be out of Gurugram or Noida before about 5 pm. The evening peak can make the last hour inside NCR slower than the whole stretch from Panipat.
Hospital visits
AIIMS in Delhi and Medanta in Gurugram both see a lot of patients from Ambala. Since the drive is only about 4 hours, you can reach for a morning OPD without leaving at midnight. For tests that may need a second day, it is better to book a night halt so the car stays with you.
Cars
Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Toyota Etios seat four. Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta and Mahindra Marazzo take six or seven with more luggage. The 12-seater and 17-seater Tempo Travellers suit weddings and group outings. All cars are air-conditioned.
Permits, tolls and the quote
Since Ambala is already in Haryana, there is one state line fewer than on the Punjab routes. Delhi entry, and UP for Noida or Ghaziabad, still need sorting, along with tolls and any parking at a hospital or office. We go through all of it on the booking call and confirm the quote then.
