Kapurthala is a short way off the main highway, so a Delhi airport trip from here starts with a run across to Jalandhar or Phagwara before the long NH44 stretch south. All told it is roughly 390 km and about 7 hours, and we plan every booking around the flight, not the clock.
Where in Kapurthala we pick up
Kapurthala district covers a wide spread of towns and villages, and our cars go to all of them:
- RCF colony – families of staff at the Rail Coach Factory, who often fly out on leave or to visit children abroad.
- Kapurthala town – homes near the bus stand, the old city and the area around the Jagatjit Palace, which houses the Sainik School.
- Sultanpur Lodhi – families from the town of Gurdwara Ber Sahib, and the villages along the Beas river side.
- Villages towards Phagwara and Bholath – many of them with relatives settled in Canada, England and Italy.
Phagwara is also in Kapurthala district, though it has its own page as it sits right on the highway.
Which way the car goes
From Kapurthala town the driver takes the road to Jalandhar and joins NH44, or cuts across to Phagwara if that is quicker from your side of the district. From Sultanpur Lodhi the route is usually via Kapurthala and Jalandhar. After that it is the same main highway everyone from the Doaba uses: Ludhiana and the Ladhowal toll, Khanna, Rajpura, the Shambhu border, then Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat. The break is normally at Murthal, and from there it is the last hour or two into the airport depending on traffic.
A typical night-flight plan
Most of our Kapurthala bookings are for international departures in the small hours. Here is how a 3 AM flight from Terminal 3 usually works out:
- Reach Terminal 3 by about midnight, 3 hours before departure.
- Allow about 7 hours of driving from Kapurthala.
- Add roughly 45 minutes at Murthal for dinner and a rest.
- Add a margin for slow traffic near Ludhiana or the Delhi end.
- That puts the pickup at around 3 to 4 PM the afternoon before.
For domestic flights, about 2 hours before departure is enough at the airport, so the pickup can move an hour later. If you are leaving from a village, tell us how long it takes to reach the main road and we will build that in.
Space for the luggage that goes abroad
Families leaving for long stays carry a lot: suitcases at the airline limit, a cabin bag each, sometimes a box of sweets or gifts for relatives. For four or five large bags, book an Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo. A Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios is right for one or two people with up to two big bags. If half the village is coming to see someone off, a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller does the job.
On the way and at the airport
The driver does the trip alone and is used to the distance. Short stops are planned so he stays fresh, and elderly passengers can ask for an extra washroom stop whenever they need it. At Delhi he drops you at the departure gate for your terminal. When someone is landing rather than leaving, he waits at arrivals, and you have his name and number on WhatsApp before the trip.
Closer airports and other routes
Amritsar airport is only about 1 and a half hours from Kapurthala, so if your airline flies from there, the Kapurthala to Amritsar airport taxi saves most of a day. Some domestic travellers use the Kapurthala to Chandigarh airport cab. For a home drop in Delhi, Gurugram or Noida, there is the Kapurthala to Delhi NCR service. Neighbours in Jalandhar can book the Jalandhar to Delhi airport run, and every town we cover is on the Delhi airport hub.

Questions people ask about this trip
Do you pick up from the RCF colony in Kapurthala?
Yes. We regularly pick up families from the Rail Coach Factory colony for Delhi airport. Share the house number and block on WhatsApp.
Which route does the taxi take from Kapurthala to Delhi?
Usually Kapurthala to Jalandhar, or across to Phagwara, and then NH44 through Ludhiana, Ambala, Karnal and Panipat to Delhi.
What time should we leave for a 3 AM flight from Terminal 3?
Around 3 to 4 PM the afternoon before. That covers about 7 hours of driving, a meal stop at Murthal and reaching the airport 3 hours early.
Can you pick up from Sultanpur Lodhi?
Yes. We collect from Sultanpur Lodhi and the villages around it, and allow extra time in the plan for that part of the drive.
Should we fly from Amritsar instead of Delhi?
If your airline has a suitable flight from Amritsar, it is only about 1 and a half hours away. For most long-haul routes to Canada or the USA, Delhi has far more choice.
