Chandigarh to Delhi Airport Taxi Service

Chandigarh has its own international airport just outside the city, so the first question for many tricity travellers is whether to fly from there or drive to Delhi. For a lot of trips, especially long-haul ones, Delhi is the answer, and at roughly 260 km and about 5 hours it is a drive you can do comfortably in an evening.

Chandigarh airport or Delhi airport?

Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, on the Mohali side near Zirakpur, is very handy for domestic flights. Its international list is short, mainly the Gulf. Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has far more international departures, more airlines and more one-stop options.

Who books the Delhi run from the tricity

We see a real mix. Families flying to Canada or Australia to visit children. Students heading abroad for study, often with a parent along to see them off. Government and corporate staff on domestic trips whose flight times work better from Delhi. Patients' families flying home after treatment at PGI. And plenty of retired couples who simply prefer a car to a domestic connection.

The drive

From Chandigarh the car heads out through Zirakpur, which can be slow at peak hours, and on to Ambala, where it joins NH44. From there the road runs through Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat towards Delhi. Murthal is a natural break about an hour short of the city. Because the trip is only around 5 hours, many people skip a long stop and take a quick tea break instead; the driver will go with what you prefer.

Pickup across the tricity

Travelling with older parents or after hospital treatment

A good number of our tricity passengers are elderly, or are heading home after treatment in Chandigarh. For them we suggest an Innova or Innova Crysta even for two people, because the seats are higher and easier to get in and out of. Tell us about any walking difficulty when you book. The driver will stop whenever asked, and you can request a wheelchair from your airline in advance so it is waiting at the terminal gate.

When to leave

Reach Terminal 3 about 3 hours before an international departure and about 2 hours before a domestic one. With a 5-hour drive plus a short break and a margin for Zirakpur and Delhi traffic, plan on about 6 to 6 and a half hours from pickup to terminal.

• 2 AM international: leave around 5 to 6 PM.
• 5 AM international: leave around 8 to 9 PM.
• Noon domestic: leave around 3 to 4 AM.

The right car

Count the suitcases before you pick the car. Up to two large bags and a couple of passengers: a sedan (Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios) is enough. Three bags or more, or a family of four and up: go for the Innova, Innova Crysta or Marazzo. A group from one sector seeing off a cousin can share a 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. Every vehicle has working air-conditioning, which matters on the Haryana stretch in summer.

At the terminal and coming back

The driver drops you at the departure gate and helps unload. Relatives can ride back to Chandigarh in the same car. When someone is landing in Delhi, the driver waits at arrivals with the flight number, and his name and number reach you on WhatsApp in advance.
