The drive from Sangrur to Chandigarh's airport is one of the easier long runs in Punjab because most of it is on NH7, a wide four-lane road. Expect about 130 km and roughly 2 hours 45 minutes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport (IXC), going via Patiala, Rajpura and Zirakpur.
NH7 to Patiala, then the Zirakpur approach
From Sangrur the car heads east on NH7 through Bhawanigarh to Patiala. This part is fast and usually free-flowing. From Patiala we take the road to Rajpura, cross onto the Rajpura–Zirakpur stretch, and come into the airport from the Zirakpur and Aerocity side.
Almost all of the uncertainty is in the last 20 to 30 km. Zirakpur is a busy junction where traffic from Delhi, Shimla and Patiala meets, and in the evening it can add 20 to 40 minutes. At night and before 7 am it is usually clear. Your driver knows the service lanes and alternatives around it.
Leaving Sangrur at the right time
Domestic flights: be at the terminal about 2 hours before. International flights (IXC has direct services to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah): about 3 hours before. So for an 8:00 am domestic flight, a 2:45 am pickup in Sangrur is about right. For an evening flight, leave a bit of extra room for Zirakpur. In winter fog on NH7, we will call you the evening before to agree an earlier start if needed.
Pickups across Sangrur district
Sangrur was once the seat of the old Jind princely state, and today it is a district headquarters with towns spread around it. We collect from:
- Sangrur city, the bus stand and the railway station
- Sunam, the hometown of Shaheed Udham Singh
- Dhuri, a railway junction on the Ludhiana line
- Bhawanigarh, Lehragaga, Longowal and the villages in between
If you are in a village, a WhatsApp location pin sent the day before saves time at 3 am.
Which car for which group
| Group | Car | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 people, normal luggage | Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Toyota Etios | Good for a domestic trip or one traveller with family seeing them off. |
| Up to 7 people or lots of bags | Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta, Mahindra Marazzo | Much more luggage space; the usual choice for students and NRIs. |
| Large family or group | 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller | For wedding guests landing together or a whole family at the airport. |
Every vehicle is air-conditioned.
Who we drive from Sangrur
A mix: government staff and teachers flying to postings or exams elsewhere, students leaving for Canada and Australia, and families with relatives in the Gulf. Political and official visitors to the district also land at Chandigarh and need a car to Sangrur. Those coming in get the same treatment as anyone flying out: we watch the flight number you give us, and the driver is parked and waiting before you clear baggage. His contact details are on your WhatsApp in advance.
What a 3 am pickup actually looks like
The driver calls or messages about 15 minutes before he reaches your gate, so nobody has to stand outside in the cold. Bags go in first, and the car is on NH7 within minutes. Most passengers sleep until Patiala. Unless you ask otherwise, the only stop is a short tea break, usually before the Rajpura stretch. If your flight is delayed while you are on the road, tell the driver and he will slow down rather than leave you waiting at the terminal for hours.
Return and same-day trips
Since the run is under 3 hours each way, a same-day return is common: the car takes you to the airport, waits or comes back later, and brings family home. Tell us the plan when you book so the quote covers it.

Questions people ask about this trip
Which route do you use from Sangrur to IXC?
NH7 through Bhawanigarh to Patiala, then Rajpura and Zirakpur to the airport. It is about 130 km and normally takes around 2 hours 45 minutes.
Where does the traffic hold up on this route?
Mainly around Zirakpur near the end of the trip, especially in the evening. NH7 itself is usually smooth.
Can you pick up from Sunam or Dhuri instead of Sangrur city?
Yes. We cover Sunam, Dhuri, Bhawanigarh, Lehragaga, Longowal and the villages of the district.
What time should I leave Sangrur for an 8 am domestic flight?
Around 2:45 am. That allows for the drive, a short buffer and the 2 hours you should spend at the terminal.
Can the same car bring my family back after the drop?
Yes. Same-day return trips are common on this route. Mention it at booking so the quote is confirmed for both legs.
