Every January, Sri Muktsar Sahib fills up for the Maghi Mela at Gurdwara Tuti Gandhi Sahib, and a good number of the people who come back for it land at Chandigarh. That is when this route is at its busiest for us, but families from Muktsar, Malout and Gidderbaha use it all year. Expect roughly four and a half hours on the road for the approx. 230 km to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport (IXC).
Coming home: IXC to Muktsar
We will start with arrivals, because that is half of what we do here. Send us your flight number and landing time when you book. On the day, the driver checks whether your flight is on time and reaches the arrivals exit before it lands. His name and phone number will already be on your WhatsApp. If you are flying in from Dubai or connecting from Canada or the UK, you will be tired, so tell us whether you want to go straight home or stop for a proper meal on the way.
The mela marks the Battle of Khidrana and the forty Sikhs, the Chali Mukte, who gave the town its name. For many families settled abroad it is the one week they try to be home, so flights into Chandigarh around Maghi in mid-January fill up and so do our cars. For Maghi Mela week, book early. Traffic into Muktsar is heavy around the festival days and we plan the last stretch with that in mind.
Going out: Muktsar to IXC
For departures, we work back from the flight time. Allow about 4 hours 30 minutes on the road, 2 hours at the terminal for domestic flights and 3 hours for the Gulf flights. A 9:00 am domestic departure means leaving Muktsar around 2:00 am. In fog season, add an hour, or travel the evening before.
Which way does the driver go?
There are two practical routes, and both pass through Kotkapura:
- East via Bathinda and NH7: Muktsar – Kotkapura – Bathinda – Rampura Phul – Barnala – Sangrur – Patiala – Rajpura – Zirakpur. Long but on a good four-lane road for most of it.
- North-east via Moga and Ludhiana: Muktsar – Kotkapura – Moga – Jagraon – Ludhiana – Samrala – Kharar. Useful when the Zirakpur end is congested.
The driver decides on the day based on time and traffic. Either way it is roughly 230 km.
Pickup area
We cover Sri Muktsar Sahib city, the bus stand and the railway station, and the wider district: Malout, Gidderbaha, Lambi and the villages across this cotton-growing belt. Farm houses are fine; send a WhatsApp location pin the day before so the driver can plan the route in the dark.
Cars and luggage
Returning NRIs usually carry far more than they think. For two people with four large suitcases, a sedan is tight; book a Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta or Mahindra Marazzo instead, which seats 6 to 7 and has a much bigger boot. A Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze or Toyota Etios (4 passengers) is right for light luggage. For a whole family arriving together, or a group heading to the mela, there is the 12-seater or 17-seater Tempo Traveller. All cars are air-conditioned.
Combining with a Gurdwara visit
Some families landing at Chandigarh want to stop at a Gurdwara on the way home, or plan a few days of darshan once they arrive. We also run car hire for NRI visitors by the day, so the same driver can stay with you if you prefer.
Nearby routes
See also Abohar's IXC page and Faridkot's IXC page, both close by, and our Bathinda run, which shares the NH7 route. All towns are on the Chandigarh airport hub.
Booking
If you are booking from abroad, a WhatsApp to +91 72680 42000 with your flight number and the address in Muktsar is enough to start; a relative here can also ring the same number to sort the details. Tolls, permits and parking are talked through and the quote is confirmed before the trip. The form on this page is open round the clock.

About 230 km, roughly 4 hours 30 minutes, via Kotkapura and then either Bathinda and NH7 or Moga and Ludhiana.
Is it hard to get a car during the Maghi Mela?
Demand is high in January around the mela, so book as early as you can. Traffic into Muktsar is heavy on the festival days and we plan the timing around it.
Can the driver meet me at IXC arrivals after an international flight?
Yes. Share the flight number and the driver will track the landing time, wait at arrivals and send you his details on WhatsApp beforehand.
Do you drop to Malout, Gidderbaha or Lambi?
Yes. We cover the whole district including Malout, Gidderbaha, Lambi and the surrounding villages.
What time should I leave Muktsar for a 9 am domestic flight?
