Innova Crysta Luggage Capacity: Which Airport Taxi Fits Your Bags?

Dzire, Innova Crysta or Tempo Traveller? A practical guide to matching passengers and suitcases to the right airport taxi, with a simple people-and-bags table.

For an airport run, count the big check-in suitcases first and the people second. A sedan like a Dzire, Amaze or Etios takes up to four passengers but only about two large suitcases plus cabin bags; an Innova or Innova Crysta suits five to seven people, though with every seat in use its boot space is limited; and once you have more than six or seven passengers or a pile of check-in bags, a Tempo Traveller is the honest answer.

Start with the bags, not the seats

Most booking mistakes we see happen because a family says "we are four" and books a sedan, then turns up with four 23 kg suitcases, two cabin trolleys and a box of pickles for relatives abroad. The car has four seats, but the boot was never going to take that load.

Before you call any taxi operator, write down three numbers: adults and children travelling, large check-in suitcases, and cabin bags or small items. Mention anything odd as well, such as a cardboard carton, a folding wheelchair, a pram or a guitar case. Those three numbers decide the car far more reliably than the head count alone.

Quick selection table: people and bags to car

These are approximate guidelines from loading real airport cars, not manufacturer figures. Suitcase sizes vary a lot, and a soft duffel squeezes in where a hard-shell case will not.

If you sit right on a boundary, go one size up. An hour into the drive to Delhi, nobody regrets the bigger car; plenty of people regret the smaller one.

Sedans: Dzire, Amaze and Etios

A sedan is the right choice for a couple, a student flying out with two suitcases, or a business traveller with one bag. The boot typically takes about two large check-in suitcases standing or lying flat, with space left for a backpack or a small trolley. Anything more usually ends up on the back seat or on someone's lap.

Among the three, the boots differ slightly, but not enough to change the rule of thumb. Four adults plus two big suitcases is the practical ceiling. For four adults with four big suitcases, a sedan is the wrong car, however keen you are to save on the booking.

Innova, Innova Crysta and Marazzo

These are the workhorses of Punjab airport runs, and for good reason. They seat six or seven, have higher seats with more legroom, and air conditioning that reaches the back rows properly on a hot June afternoon.

The luggage catch

With all three rows in use, the space behind the last row is limited. Expect roughly two or three cabin-sized bags or soft bags there, not a stack of big suitcases. This is the most common surprise with innova crysta luggage capacity on airport taxis: the car is large, but most of that size is seats.

Fold the last row and the picture changes completely. With four or five passengers in the front two rows, the rear can take several large suitcases. That makes an Innova Crysta with the last row folded the usual choice for an NRI family of four heading to Delhi with a full luggage allowance.

Roof carriers

Whether a roof carrier can be fitted depends on the specific vehicle, and luggage on the roof needs proper covering in rain or fog. If you think you will need one, ask us when booking rather than assuming it is available.

Tempo Traveller: 12 and 17 seats

For extended families, wedding groups and Gurdwara yatra groups, a Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together in one vehicle, which matters at a busy terminal when you are trying to count heads. Luggage arrangements vary between vehicles, so share your exact bag count and we will tell you plainly whether it fits.

The trade-off is speed and parking. A Tempo Traveller is slower on the highway than a car, and at the airport it may need to use a different stopping area. Two smaller cars sometimes work better for a group of seven or eight with heavy bags, because both can stop right at the terminal.

Long Delhi runs, elderly parents and children

From Jalandhar, the drive to Delhi airport is about 375 km and roughly 7 hours on NH44; from Amritsar it is closer to 8 hours. Over that distance, comfort is not a luxury. An MPV lets passengers stretch their legs, and the middle-row seats recline better than a sedan's rear bench. A planned stop at the Murthal dhabas near Sonipat breaks the trip nicely before the airport stretch.

For elderly parents, seat height matters. Many older passengers find it easier to slide sideways into the higher seat of an Innova than to lower themselves into a sedan and climb out again at the other end. Put them in the middle row, not the last row, and keep their medicines and a water bottle in a small bag beside them rather than in the boot.

A folding wheelchair takes a surprising amount of boot space. If you are booking a wheelchair at the airport through the airline, you may not need to carry one, but if you are bringing your own, count it as a large suitcase.

Children and child seats

Tell us the ages of children when you book. If you need a child seat, ask at the time of booking whether one can be arranged for your date. Many NRI families travel with their own car seat, which is often the safest option because you already know it fits your child; just remember it also takes up boot or seat space.

A pram folds smaller than people expect, but a twin pram does not. Mention it upfront.

Packing for the car, not just the plane

  1. Pack heavy check-in cases so they can lie flat; tall, narrow cases waste boot height.
  2. Use soft bags for anything extra. They squeeze into gaps that a hard case cannot.
  3. Keep passports, tickets, phone chargers and medicines in one cabin bag that rides inside the car, not in the boot.
  4. Weigh bags at home. Repacking at the terminal kerb on a cold December night is miserable.
  5. Tie a coloured ribbon or tag on every bag so you can count them quickly when unloading.
  6. Seal cartons of sweets or food properly; an open box tipping over in the boot is a long clean-up.
  7. Do a final count with the driver before leaving the house and again at the terminal.

Airport pickups work the same way in reverse

Arrivals catch people out because they often come home with more than they left with. If you have been shopping abroad, add a bag to your count when booking a Delhi airport to Jalandhar pickup. Share your flight number so the driver plans around delays; he waits at arrivals and his name and number reach you on WhatsApp before the trip.

Not every trip needs the long Delhi drive. Families in Doaba can often fly from Amritsar, about 90 km from Jalandhar, which shortens the road part a lot; see the Jalandhar to Amritsar airport taxi and the wider Amritsar airport taxi from Punjab page. For domestic connections, Adampur is closer still, and our Adampur airport taxi runs there. Ludhiana families heading to Mohali can look at the Ludhiana to Chandigarh airport taxi.

For the longer run, the Delhi airport taxi from Punjab page covers each town, and the Jalandhar to Delhi airport taxi page explains departure timing for international flights. Visiting family from abroad can find more on our NRI taxi service in Punjab.

Frequently asked questions

How many suitcases fit in a Dzire, Amaze or Etios?

Roughly two large check-in suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags. With more big bags, an Innova or Innova Crysta is the safer choice.

What is the luggage capacity of an Innova Crysta with all seats in use?

Limited: roughly two or three cabin-sized or soft bags behind the last row. Folding the last row frees space for several large suitcases, with room for four or five passengers.

We are a family of four with four big suitcases. Which car should we book?

An Innova or Innova Crysta with the last row folded is the usual fit. A sedan will not take four large check-in cases comfortably.

When should we book a Tempo Traveller instead of an Innova?

When you have more than six or seven passengers, or six to seven people with a full international luggage allowance. Two cars can also work for groups of seven or eight.

Can I get a child seat or a roof carrier for the airport trip?

Ask at the time of booking, as it depends on the vehicle and the date. Many NRI families bring their own child seat, which is often the best option.

Which car is best for elderly parents on the Delhi airport run?

An Innova or Innova Crysta is usually easier, as the higher seats are simpler to get in and out of and there is more legroom for a 7-hour drive. Seat them in the middle row.
